Kedarnath Sanctuary

Kedarnath Sanctuary is situated in chamoli district of Garhwal Uttarnachal. Kedarnath sanctuary was founded in 1972 occupying 975 sq kms of the Garhwal Himalayas, established primarily to protect the endangered Himalayan Musk Deer. Hence, it is also called the Kedarnath Musk Deer Sanctuary .

The wonderful stretch of the Himalayas offers a glorious view of snow-clad mountains, valleys, forests and grasslands, exotic butterflies and flowers. This is a haven for many species of mammals and birds.

The important mammals seen here are Snow leopard, Snow fowl, Himalayan Tahr, Musk deer, Serow, Leopard, Himalayan bear, Sambhar and Bharal. Some of the birds species found in the area are Little Pied Flycatcher, Grey-cheeked Warbler and Nepal Tree-creeper, Himalayan Monal - the state bird of Uttarakhand, considered endangered, Kalij Pheasant and Koklass Pheasant.
